Sujata* is a girl of around 18 years from remote village Nandakumarpur under Mathurapur II block in South 24 Parganas District of West Bengal, India. She is living with her parents and two other sisters in a small mud house with two small rooms. Sujata studies in Class XI at the local higher secondary school -‘Nandakumarpur High School’.

Sujata’s father Mr. Haripada* Mondal is a daily wager in cultivation activities and the lone earner of the family. Thus he earns around INR 3000.00 only per month. Her mother looks after the household core. With the meager amount of that her father manages to earn thus sustain their family expenses with steep hardship.

Sujata joined the ‘Nayantara’ programme in the beginning of 2017. Initially a timid and shy girl afraid of studying she is now consistently improving under the care and guidance provided through the programme. Earlier she was unwilling to attend classes and used to stay away from studies. She was very much afraid of the subjects taught.

Now by constant mobilisation efforts by Sabuj Sangha staffs of ‘Nayantara’ she is gradually improving in studies. She has now become regular in attending classes both in her school and at Nayantara Nandakumarpur Centre. Her interest and efforts to perform better has improved also. The life skill training catered through ‘Nayantara’ programme helped her thinking confidently of a strong future.

Now she aspires to sustain her education further in higher studies. Besides, she also wants to develop her skill in tailoring as this would help her build own earning avenue.

Sujata’s parents have high aspirations on her. They dreams to see her study intensely and be a successful person and self reliant at her own ability.
