Challenge

America's wild horses & burros are under siege in the U.S. Their indigenous heritage is ignored due to competing land use interests. Erroneous labeling i.e., "invasive" is used to justify their cruel extermination & removal from public lands. Equines captured by the BIA during roundups on reservations have reportedly shipped to slaughter the same day. Without increased public support for strong protection & conservation untold numbers of wild equines across the West will continue to suffer & die

Solution

WFLF's wild horse and burro rescue and recovery mission provides ongoing quality care and protection for victimized horses & burros, including slaughter bound & roundup victims, pregnant & nursing mares, orphan foals, blind, injured, abused & emaciated equines without limitation to wild nature. This project serves to fill the essential needs for up to 20 rescued horses and burros in need for 1 year, and advocates for the protection and preservation horses and burros on Native and public lands.

Long-Term Impact

Our mission seeks to enact recognition of the Native status of wild horses & burros in the U.S. as wildlife which would yield their legal protection from extinction; enact federal protection from exploitation, harassment, & killing on tribal and public lands; assure the legal safeguard from slaughter through permanent federal bi-partisan legislation; and fulfill sustainment of viable sanctuary & preserves for the protection & preservation of wild equines who are not able to return to the wild.
