All of us at Wild for Life Foundation are grateful, every day, to the caring people who have donated to support the success of our lifesaving mission.
This project fills an immediate need to care for animals that would otherwise suffer inhumane treatment and advocates for their protection. Rescued Navajo wild horses under WFLF are provided with safe and peaceful habitats, nutritious food, transportation, medicine and healthcare. Their healing in turn inspires good will and brings increased exposure to the issues that impact America’s wild horse and burro population. From raising awareness and compassion to inspiring people to take action – their voice needs to be heard, and we thank you for helping to support them.
We at WFLF are but humble servants to these noble animals who have blessed our world in so many ways – they have built our countries, fought our wars, and carried our loved ones home. They heal our lands and can heal our hearts – there is much we can learn about who we are as people and where we are headed in this great world that we share. The horse is one of man’s most betrayed, yet loyal and forgiving friends – we can learn a lot from horses.
Through our outreach program, we’re raising awareness about the true heritage of horses and burros. For example, did you know that horses and burros are Native to North America? It’s true! But their indigenous heritage to North America is ignored by those who manage our lands in order to satisfy competing land use interests. In fact, horses and burros are routinely labeled as an “invasive species” to justify their extermination. Without the enforcement of strong safeguards to protect wild horses and burros on tribal reservations and U.S. public lands they will continue to be targeted for violent expulsion through roundup, slaughter and hunting.
WFLF advocates for recognition of their rightful Native status in the U.S. as part of the natural ecosystem which yields their protection from extinction under the law.
Also, did you know that cattle outnumber wild horses by more than 37 to 1 on western lands? That’s true too! Yet horses are blamed for the chronic damage caused by the vast number of livestock.
America's wild horses and burros are living symbols of the historic spirit of the West. They contribute to the diversity of life forms within the environment and enrich the lives of the people. However they are sadly disappearing from the landscape and must be protected.
We are committed to meeting the challenge of sustaining this lifesaving project and to achieving protection for all horses and burros from the torturous agony of slaughter through permanent federal bi-partisan legislation that forbids slaughter on American soil and forever bans the export of live horses to slaughterhouses in other countries. The potential long term impact of the work accomplished through this project is far reaching, and also includes the enactment of federal protection and enforcement of laws which safeguard wild equines from exploitation, harassment, and killing through humane and nonlethal management practices on both tribal and public lands.
But, we cannot do this alone. It takes all of us working together to assure America’s horses and burros receive the protection they need, to raise awareness, effect positive change and save as many lives as possible.
That’s why we are excited to be part of GlobalGiving’s 2018 Year-End campaign where recurring monthly donations get matched 100% by GlobalGiving! New recurring donations up to $200 per donor made to this project will be matched 100% through Dec 31st! Your monthly gift will help assure continued quality care for rescued Navaho horses.
