Wild Horse & Burro Rescue & Sanctuary Mission

The Navajo Horses Rescue & Recovery Mission (NHRRM) is a project under WFLF wild horse rescue & recovery mission that benefits rescued Navajo horses who depend on WFLF to survive, and helps to raise awareness for the protection of all horses and burros from the torturous agony of slaughter.

News of Navajo horses going straight to slaughter first broke in 2013, when tribal members reported that Navajo government Rangers were storming their ranches, barns and homes, and taking horses under a U.S. Government funded roundup that had been approved by the Navajo administration.

Through a collaborative grassroots effort made possible by an outpouring of WFLF support has been able to save many of their lives . The heartwarming story of their rescue and survival has helped to restore hope for the horses and our lands.

MorningStar (above) was one of the littlest baby foals in the first group of orphan Navajo foals rescued by Wild for Life Foundation. She was just 6 weeks old when she lost her mother to roundups and slaughter.  Morning Star is one of many rescued equines that depend 100% on charitable donations made to the Wild For Life Foundation.

NHRRM fills an immediate need to care for animals that would otherwise suffer inhumane treatment and advocates for their protection. Donations received through this project help to provide for the ongoing health care, housing, nutritional hay and feed, transportation, and other day to day needs of the rescue equines who reside under WFLF’s animal sanctuary program.

America’s wild horses and burros are under threat of EXTERMINATION across the country, targeted for elimination from both public lands and their native rangeland homes. Sadly, countless horses’ and burros’ lives are lost to inhumane and needless slaughter and killing every day. BUT THIS CAN BE PREVENTED!

We at Wild For Life Foundation (WFLF) are dedicated to saving, protecting and caring for at-risk and victimized equines in need through rescue, sanctuary and education.  

The potential long term impact of the work accomplished through this project is far reaching, and includes the support of humane and nonlethal management practices on both tribal and public lands, and the enactment of federal protection that will better safeguard wild equines from exploitation, harassment, and killing. 

But, we cannot do this work alone. Continued support of WFLF’s charitable purpose is needed to carry out our work.  It takes all of us working together to assure America’s horses and burros receive the protection they need, to raise awareness, effect positive change and keep them safe into the future.
