This project will continuing educating the community about mental health issues that plague them. We will use this project to reach 1,000 people in the communities with the largest inpatient admissions for mental health per capita for the city.
In the Chicagoland area, several communities of color are largely impacted by mental illnesses showing a significant increase in inpatient admissions per capita when compared to the city overall. Many persons living in these communities are unaware of illnesses, signs/symptoms, accessing help outside of the hospital, how to help their family members and how to reduce the stigma that can be taught through educational activities such as workshops for them in their communities.
This project seeks to reduce the number of inpatient hospitalizations, increase the knowledge and reduce the stigma associated with mental illness in communities of color through education and advocacy.
This project will educate a minimum of 1,000 people in the affected communities which has a potential boomerang effect. This boomerang effect means that the immediate attendees will share their knowledge and wealth with others.
