Project updates September 2018

We thank the donors for committing to the My Jungle - Participatory Forest Conservation. Also, we are grateful to the Global Giving for providing the platform to spread a word about our work and fundraising.

Tree Plantation: Tree Plantation activity was carried out with the awareness on the       Importance of plants for life cycle. The native tree such as Lagerstroemia speciosa (Tamhan), Alstonia scholaris (Satvin), Ficus religiosa (Pimple), Memecylon umbellatun (Anjani), Syzygium    cumini (Jambul) etc was done with the help of local peoples.

Tree Plantation program held in Guruvarya Lalasaheb Patankar Vidyalaya, Bopoli in the month of September. The students of 8th and 9th std. actively participated in this program. Project officer encouraged students to preserve trees which play a vital role in maintaining the ecological balance. He added that it is the responsibility of every one of us to not only grow trees but also taking care of and protecting them.

Strengthening local livelihoods: Meeting and discussion on the community livelihoods were conducted in Choravane Village of district Ratnagiri. General community members and village council (Gram Panchayat) members were consulted. Some livelihood areas that can be strengthened have been identified in these discussions. These areas have been an improvement in rice productivity, energy source other than fuelwood and nature tourism and homestay for tourists as income generation activities for the local community. The response of the community has been encouraging. In the due course, we will work to materialize the outcome of these discussions.

Awareness Lectures: Awareness lectures held in Netaji Subhaschandra Highschool, Koynanagar giving the information about the Importance of various plants and their role in the environment. This session helps to create curiosity and Knowledge about Nature in the young mind and most important is spread awareness to protect nature throughout the region.

Use of camera traps to document the wildlife: The camera traps are set up in consultation with the community members having expertise and knowledge about wildlife. Compilation of the images from the trap cameras will be an important aid in awareness generation on the wildlife existing in the area.
