Muslim American Heritage

At MALA we have continued our mission to empower and uplift Muslim Americans by focusing on two key areas: cultural heritage preservation and advocacy for Muslim American civil rights. Through our partnership with the Muslim American Leadership Alliance (MALA) and the Muslim American Heritage project, we have reached significant milestones that highlight the importance of recognizing and preserving the rich history and contributions of Muslim Americans.

Over the past few months, we have engaged with over 500 individuals across various states through our educational workshops and cultural events. These activities aim to raise awareness about the vital role Muslim Americans have played in shaping the nation. We hosted an interactive exhibition that showcased artifacts, stories, and achievements of Muslim Americans, bringing together a diverse audience and fostering greater understanding and appreciation of our shared history.

As we move forward, we are excited to continue expanding our outreach and educational programs. Our upcoming initiatives include a series of virtual seminars, where we will discuss the impact of Muslim Americans in various fields such as science, politics, and the arts. These seminars will provide a platform for young people to engage with history in a meaningful way and encourage them to become ambassadors of their heritage.

Imam Abdullah Antepli | Duke University
Dr. Antepli’s work focuses on cross-religious and cross-cultural dialogue, with a focus on Jewish-Muslim relations.

Second Lt. Khady Ndiaye | Fort Liberty
The U.S. Army Cheif of Chaplians commissioned the first female Muslim Chaplain Candidate in the Army during a three-day event at Fort Liberty.

Naser “Nas” Mohamed
Naser is a physician from Qatar and a LGBT rights activist. In 2022, he became the first Qatari to publicly come out as a gay man.

Ringing the Openng Ceremony Bell at Nasdaq on March 8, 2024- International Women's Day 

On the momentous occasion of March 8th, International Women's Day, the Nasdaq Opening Bell Ceremony took on a special significance as it welcomed MALA (The Muslim American Leadership Alliance) to lead the day's proceedings. Against the backdrop of a crisp morning in New York City, the bustling financial district stirred with anticipation and pride.

Representatives of the organization, comprised predominantly of Muslim women leaders, gathered at the Nasdaq MarketSite with a sense of purpose and determination. Draped in vibrant colors and adorned with symbols of empowerment, they embodied the spirit of resilience and progress that International Women's Day celebrates. At the forefront stood a trailblazing Muslim woman, the CEO and President of MALA, whose leadership and vision had propelled them to this pivotal moment alongside other Muslim Women leaders. With unwavering resolve and grace, she stepped forward to ring the bell with MALA Chairwoman—a symbol of breaking barriers and shattering glass ceilings. It was a moment of recognition and validation, affirming the vital role that women, including Muslim women, play in shaping the future of business, society, and beyond.

In the days that followed, the image of Muslim women ringing the Nasdaq Opening Bell on International Women's Day spread far and wide, inspiring countless others to pursue their dreams and defy expectations. It served as a powerful reminder that diversity is not only a source of strength but also a catalyst for innovation and progress.

MALA confidently leads the way in promoting interfaith understanding and collaboration through various dynamic partnerships, including interfaith dialogues, cultural exchanges, and digital media campaigns. By highlighting shared values and experiences, MALA creates a strong sense of belonging and solidarity, empowering individuals to contribute to economic and social liberty.

As the markets opened and trading commenced, a new chapter began—one marked by inclusivity, empowerment, and the relentless pursuit of equality. And though the day's trading would come to a close, the impact of this symbolic gesture would endure, lighting the way for generations of women to come.
