Below, a long-time supporter of The Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation, shares her story.
"I was fortunate to grow up in a community that supported a music program in the public schools. In elementary school, I was introduced to the violin, an instrument that I played until I graduated from college. It was in middle school where I also learned to play the clarinet and joined the band. I simply cannot imagine my life without music in it, and I attribute my scholastic and career success to the discipline that came from learning to play a musical instrument. Although I am continually disappointed to see music and art programs among the first to be cut when public funding becomes tight, I laud Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation for doing what it can to support music programs in the schools and in communities. By supporting your efforts, I’m hoping that future generations of students will derive the same benefit and pleasure from playing a musical instrument as I have."
