Sometimes we look at our DREAM Music Program and wonder how we have gotten so far in just a few years. As many of you know, our program started with a small group of dedicated, local musicians that decided to give piano and violin classes in 2007. These volunteers sparked what has become one of the DR's most recognizable and sucessful music programs, with hundreds of youth participating, a professional DREAM "Youth" Band playing all over the country, asssociations with organizations like IASO Records, FEDUJazz, Wimbash and Berkley School of Music...it is truly remarkable.
We now have our Bachata "DREAM Team Band" playing at real venues once a month, along with various concerts and perfromances throughout the country. Their reputaion has grown to the extent that professional musicians are using the core group to play professional performances...simply because they are so talented. This is not your average children's orchestra!
We also have the world's first Bachata Academy, including a Bachata House in Cabarete, Puerto Plata, which houses professional teachers from all over and has performance spaces for daytime classes. You will find scores of youth walking through their communities with instruments, under their care and responsibility. The program has grown in ways we never thought imaginable.
Thank you so much for your continued interest and support! If you are in Cabarete, please come by and see the kids play for yourself, it is an amazing thing to see...
