The DREAM Music Program is based on the simple belief that early childhood development and at-risk youth are inspired to improve their education through music. The Dominican Republic is one of the most musical cultures in the world, yet very few organized music programs are available. This program will expose 350 impoverished youth ages 3-18 to a structured music program that coincides with their focus on quality education.
The likelihood of a Dominican child completing a quality education is extraordinarily low. In fact, a Dominican student entering the public education system has less than a 10% chance of graduating from high school (United Nations [UN], 2005). We believe early childhood development and at-risk youth are inspired to improve their education through music. This program will expose 350 impoverished youth ages 3-18 to a structured music program that coincides with their focus on quality education. DREAM is proud to partner with both Wimbash Cabarete and FEDUJAZZ, the foundation established by the DR Jazz Fest. In collaboration with FEDUJAZZ, DREAM has established a high quality music education and both partnerships provide workshops, allowing our students to play alongside international musicians and raise much needed awareness for our program
Children that participate in band and ensemble music programs are seven times more likely to graduate from high school. In addition, developing the skill of playing a musical instrument instills confidence and a sense of responsibility in the most unique way.
