This fall, our Music Program continued to expand, exposing 350 impoverished youth ages 3-18 to a structured music curriculum that coincides with their focus on quality education. A highlight of October was performing in the Dominican Republic Jazz Festival and participating in two amazing workshops with international musicians from The Berklee College of Music. Our Music Coordinator Juan worked very hard, launchig the academic year by offering more one on one classes with our core students and developing our FEDUJAZZ Latin Jazz curriculum. This hard work culminated in a special performance on the main stage of Cabarete, directed by FEDUJAZZ Director Ramon Vasquez with a crowd of fans.
In addition, a group of budding musicians have started to take Bachata lessons through our partnership with our new volunteer and donor Benjamin de Menil and his Studies in Dominican Music (IASO). In this innovative program, youth are also exposed to local volunteers and visiting artists who offer additional classes in various musical genres that reveal new and exciting possibilities.
Thanks to all of our generous donors, we have continued to grow and are getting tuned up for a holiday performance December 12th at Velero Beach Resort. Juan has composed 2 holiday songs and we are ready to welcome 2014, filling the halls of DREAM with even more music!
