This project will provide instruments, materials, and supplies to children learning music in NYC. In 2019-20, ETM is launching new programs at 17 schools in the Bronx, Queens, and Brooklyn. This project will allow over 10,000 students to participate in music class, many for the first time. Instruments enliven music education and materials and supplies outfit music classrooms with the tools to make learning exciting for students and teach them confidence and critical thinking skills.
Approximately 10,000 disadvantaged children in 17 NYC schools (located in the Bronx, Queens, and Brooklyn) will be receiving music education for the first time during 2019-20, but their schools do not have enough materials and supplies for the new music classroom. We are also identifying new partner schools for 2020-21, and they will also have brand-new needs.
This project will support the purchase of instruments and educational materials for first-year partner schools. Needed instruments include xylophones, drums, and recorders. Based on success at other ETM partners, we want to outfit the music classroom with a wide variety of instruments to help students remain focused and engaged, with instrument parts so that all are working instruments to help students apply musical skills, and with crucial musical accompaniment.
With these instruments and supplies, the music teachers can create a learning-friendly environment for these students and provide instruction that will support learning in music, critical thinking, and improved self-esteem and motivation. Your support will give teachers the tools to create engaging lessons and make the new music program an unforgettable experience for students.
