The phreatic eruption of Mt. Bulusan left villages in a blanket of thick ashes in Juban, Sorsogon, Bicol Region, Philippines. Around 2784 families were affected due to the hazardous ashfalls. This Relief fund will support Emergency Relief Delivery operations composed of food, water, medicines, face masks, and hygiene kits. The response will be implemented by Tarabang para sa Bicol (TABI) and with the support of the Local Government Unit.
During the conduct of Damage, Needs, Capacity Assessment and based on the Office of Civil Defense in Bicol, a total of 2784 families or 13, 920 individuals have been affected by ashfall and pungent odor from the phreatic eruption of Mt. Bulusan Volcano. The eruption has affected the 2,683.40 hectares of agricultural land, resulting in production loss and damages amounting to PHP20.2 million.
All the support for this appeal will help the emergency response for the most affected families in 7 villages caused by the phreatic eruption of Mt. Bulusan in the Municipality of Juban, Sorsogon. For the Emergency Response, immediate needs based on the DNCA result, food, water, hygiene kits, medicines, and face masks will be priorities. Activities under Emergency Relief Operations: 1. Courtesy Calls 2. Selection of Beneficiaries 3. Conduct of Relief Delivery Operation 4. Exit Interview.
The appeal will help the displaced families to lessen their difficult situation. Support/ donations will later shift to long-term Responses like Early Recovery or livelihood projects. Early Recovery projects like provisions of livelihood and Capacity Building ( training, workshop on Disaster Management) for the most affected/vulnerable families are planned to conduct. With this appeal, villages will gradually recover from their situation caused by volcanic eruptions.
