Dear Friend,
You subscribed to email updates from ‘Support specialist nurses for people with MS’ by Multiple Sclerosis Trust, a project on GlobalGiving. Here's the unedited update from the field:
Funding new MS specialist nurses in the UK
Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a life-long, unpredictable, complex condition, affecting the central nervous system. There is no known cure, and it is most often diagnosed in young people aged in their 20s and 30s. The impact of MS can be life changing, not just for those diagnosed but also for their family and friends.
That is why the care and support offered by MS specialist nurses is vital. They are often the main point of contact for people affected by MS; offering direct support, clinical advice, and the ability to connect patients to other services, such as a doctor or a therapist. However, there is still a dire shortage of MS nurses across the UK - which means that around 77,000 people do not have access to the care and support they may need.
In 2017, thanks to the generosity of our amazing supporters, the MS Trust recruited and funded a new MS specialist nurse for Leicester General Hospital. This pioneering Programme has helped to improve the quality of care and support available for people affected by MS;
Progress like this has only been possible thanks to the kindness of people like you.
Thank you so much once again for choosing to support the MS Trust.
With our very best wishes
Rob Carter
