Moving Lives Forward for Children on the Move

Every mother dreams of giving her children a better life than her own," says 28-year-old Meryem. That dream is at the very heart of the life she has built in Türkiye.

As uncertainty in Syria persisted, Meryem arrived in Türkiye at the age of 21 with her husband and children. While raising her family, she never gave up hope for a better future. Today, she lives with her husband and their three children, working hard to ensure they grow up in safety and have the opportunity to build lives of their own.

Meryem believes that her children's future is shaped by the opportunities they have today. She considers access to education, healthcare, and a safe environment to be the foundation for a brighter tomorrow. Above all, she hopes her children will continue their education, believe in themselves, and one day follow the professions they dream of.

Providing for the family is not always easy. Meryem's husband works as a hairdresser, and together they carefully manage their limited resources to ensure their children have what they need while continuing to build a brighter future for them.

Meryem's journey with the Association for Social Development and Aid Mobilization (ASAM) began several years after she arrived in Türkiye. At first, she sought guidance and support for her own education and healthcare needs. 

Alongside the guidance she received for herself,Meryem also receives support from ASAM for her children's education. The fact that her children continue to learn and remain engaged in their education strengthens her hopes for the future.

When Meryem struggled to access the medical supplies one of her children needed, she received also health counselling and disability-related support from ASAM. Following a series of consultations, the necessary medical supplies were provided, helping to ease some of the challenges the family faced in their daily lives.

For Meryem, the support meant far more than meeting a practical need. It reminded her that she was not alone in her efforts to build a better future for her children and relieved some of the everyday worries that had weighed heavily on her.

Today, Meryem dreams of seeing her children complete their education, stand on their own feet, and grow up with the security and opportunities they deserve. Everything she does is to ensure they will one day have the freedom to choose their own paths. With every step she takes today, she is helping shape a brighter tomorrow for them. Because the future begins today.
