Wrapping up for the season!

Let's wrap it up! Our 150 beehives are back to where they came from in Chenalhó, Chiapas, safe and sound. After spending almost three months living amongst mango orchards, our productive little bees came back home stronger and healthier!

Athough the mango flowers weren't as juicy as we would've liked (we dealt with a very dry winter), there were also other flowers blooming and our innovative producers were able to harvest +360 kg of honey from this pilot. Many lessons were learned. One of them is that we were one month late in the installation of the hives in the ranchs. Next time, we will be sure to get the funding in time for the beehives to thrive. Other lesson is that, even if the honey production during transhumance was not as generous as we expected, bees definetly benefit from this activity: they are now stronger and healthier than before the trip, and this will result in a higher volume of honey produced during the 'traditional harvest' in the spring.

Although we didn't complete the requested funding amount in Global Giving's platform, the beekeepers got access to a small loan to cover for the remaining expenses. Overall, it vas a very positive and energizing experience for all the people involved! This year, producers from two other coops will try it too, and we are sure the results are going to overwhelm everybody.

Thank you for your support! Without you, this experiment would have been impossible and the beekeepers from Chenalhó wouldn't have had the chance to try new ways to help them exit the poverty circle they're in and thrive as rural entrepreneurs!

See you in September for a new chapter in our journey towards a more inclusive and equal Mexico!

 Miel gracias!
