The Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki eruption on November 3, 2024, caused severe damage and displaced 12,959 people across East Flores and Sikka. The response plan, under two months, will focus on hygiene kits for 1,000 families, food supplies for 500 families, basic remedies for 500 families, and USD 50 multipurpose cash assistance for 200 families, prioritizing most at risk groups. Urgent needs include clean water, shelter, hygiene, and health education to ensure safety and recovery.
A rapid assessment revealed that displaced communities urgently need personal hygiene kits, food supplies, and specific health-related essentials, particularly for the most at-risk groups, including older people and individuals with disabilities. Many have lost their primary sources of income, such as farming, herding, or labor work, due to the disaster, leaving families unable to meet their basic needs. This uncertainty highlights the critical need for immediate and sustained support.
The project aims to support most at-risk people displaced due to Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki eruption to live a safer, healthier, more comfortable and dignified life with the target at least 4,000 families through distributions of: hygiene kits for 1000 families, simple health kits for 500 families, 500 packages of food supply especially fruit and vegetable, and Multi-purpose cash assistance for 200 families to ensure that they can utilize it for fulfilling their basic and specific needs.
The two-month intervention fosters long-term recovery by improving health through hygiene kits and basic remedies, enhancing nutrition with fresh food supplies, and empowering families through multi purpose cash assistance to meet immediate needs. It stabilizes local economies, strengthens immunity, and supports host families, promoting social cohesion and resilience in affected communities while reducing disease risks and aiding economic and physical recovery.
