Curious to read how we observe International Spinal Cord Injury Day?

Alexandra`s life changed in an instant!
Alexandra`s life changed in an instant!

Dear Friend of Motivation,

As autumn begins, I hope everything is going well for you. I hope you’ve gathered enough beautiful memories over the summer to enjoy even when the sun becomes a little less generous with us.

Each year on September 5th, Motivation Romania, along with many more organizations around the world, joins The International Spinal Cord Society in observing International Spinal Cord Injury Day. We all use this day to remind our friends of the challenges faced by people living with spinal cord injuries, as well as to prevent further injuries through accidents, falls or other preventable causes.

Today, I’d like to introduce Alexandra. Twelve years ago, her life changed in an instant.

Alexandra was just 15 when she sustained a spinal cord injury in a car accident. A long period of medical rehabilitation and adjustment followed. During that time, receiving the right support and the mobility equipment suited to her needs helped her gradually regain her mobility and independence. Alexandra is now 27.

Such a life-changing moment is followed by a process of adaptation, which brings challenges, as well as resources discovered along the way and an ever-growing sense of independence. Motivation Romania Foundation became part of Alexandra’s story shortly after her accident. The first wheelchair she received from us was a standard wheelchair, adapted to the needs she had at that time. Later, as she became more active and independent, Alexandra transitioned to an active wheelchair, which gave her greater freedom of movement and made it easier for her to get around.

Your donations make possible gifts of hope to others who need to recover their independence.

An appropriate wheelchair is the starting point of all other individual efforts to learn to regain mobility and to rebuild one`s life after a spinal cord injury. This year, we already donated over 1.000 wheelchairs to children and adults with mobility disabilities, including spinal cord injuries. YOUR gifts on GlobalGiving made it possible for six of these people with disabilities to start their pathway towards independence using the right wheelchair. Thank you!

Your gifts help wheelchair users to face life`s changes!

We often cannot control what happens to us, but we can choose how we respond to the changes life brings our way. Monthly donations give back hope and freedom of movement to children and adults with mobility disabilities through the Wheelchair Fund!

Continue giving the gift of hope to Romanian wheelchair users!

With gratitude,

Anca from Motivation
