This summer, FAME students in grades 7-10 are learning the science of renewable energy to power and recharge drones. They are measuring the electric currents generated by alternative energy sources, including wind turbines, solar power, and hydroelectricity, though the use of multi-meters. Student teams are collaborating and using their problem-solving skills to integrate alternative energy sources into various forms of drone technology. Teams are designing their projects, fabricating prototypes on our 3D printers, and putting them to the test. The students are also designing and building two obstacle courses to use in the final team competitions, which the students have named Drone Olympics!
FAME's 11th and 12th grade students had the amazing opportunity to spend four weeks on-campus at the University of Delaware for a professor-led summer course at the university's College of Engineering. This college-level education, designed specifically for FAME students, provides our 11th and 12th graders with an introduction to college and also prepares them to succeed in their high school AP and Honors classes.
After our Summer Sessions come to a close, FAME's students will be engaged in our Fall to Spring Session, which is held two Saturdays per month during the school year, as well as our two Robotics teams.
