Students Learning in Class!

The summer has come to a close and Forum to Advance Minorities in Engineering, Inc. (FAME, Inc.) is gearing up for our fall/spring session! The CORE STEM Enrichment Program is set to begin for students in grades 7 through 12 beginning in October, 2018 and ending in May, 2019. Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) sessions will be held on the first and third Saturday of each month and will run from 9:00am-12:00pm at John Dickinson High School in Wilmington, Delaware. Throughout the school year, FAME, Inc. students will be engaged in rigorous Problem Based Learning (PBL) activities that focus on the following academic areas: English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Technology, and Science Lecture & Lab. In addition to academic learning, students will also have the opportunity to visit local industry leaders to become introduced to real-life STEM professionals and careers!

During the summer of 2018, FAME, Inc. students visited the Delaware Biotechnical Institute (July 19), AstraZeneca (July 23), and Siemens (July 24). On site demonstrations in collaboration with scientists from Air Liquide (July 16) and Solenis (July 18) engaged students in hands-on experiments with the creation of paper and career explorations. Students also traveled to the Millennium Skate World in Camden, New Jersey on July 17 to participate in STEM activities related to motion, music, and movement. The Culmination/Graduation Ceremony for the 2018 summer session was held on Thursday, July 26. The ceremony closed out both our University of Delaware sessions (4 consecutive weeks) as well as our STEMulate® Change and CORE Enrichment sessions (6 consecutive weeks). The Summer programming started on Monday, June 18 and ended on Thursday, July 26.
