MotherSchools: Parenting for Peace India will equip 200 mothers across Kerala with the skills, confidence, and networks to disrupt cycles of violence and extremism at their roots. Women are often the first to witness or experience violence, yet they remain an untapped force for prevention. Since 2012, Women without Borders has transformed mothers into community leaders through interactive workshops, proving that when women are empowered, entire societies become more resilient.
In marginalised and isolated communities, women are often confined to singular roles, primarily as mothers, with little opportunity to realise their potential as leaders or role models. Societal norms restrict their agency, limiting their ability to participate in decision-making or explore identities beyond motherhood. Without access to networks or resources, many remain isolated, unable to contribute fully to the resilience and well-being of themselves, their families and communities.
The MotherSchools: Parenting for Peace programme, engages women in dynamic, interactive seminars over 3-4 months with each individual receiving 40+ hours of training each. These sessions ignite their confidence and sharpen their skills, enabling them to build strong, trusted networks of likeminded allies. By building their social capital, we equip women to take courageous action against violence and violent extremism, transforming not just their lives, but entire communities.
MotherSchools are designed to create lasting change by fostering self-sustaining networks of trust, knowledge, and leadership. Trained mothers become role models who pass on their learnings within their families and communities, ensuring the programme's impact extends beyond its duration. By equipping women with skills and confidence, MotherSchools empower them to continue their work independently, reinforcing resilience and violence prevention for future generations.
