In the high Atlas mountains, where most villages are hard to reach, there is a desperate need for food aid. A seismic earthquake, the most powerful to hit our Morocco in over a century, on the night of Friday, September 8, 2023. Its epicenter was located in the province of Al-Haouz, southwest of Marrakech, causing extensive human and material damage, resulting in a true tragedy. Your contribution can provide vital assistance to them, offering crucial hope in their struggle for survival.
The earthquake survivors are grieving not only the immense and tragic loss of human life but also the devastation of their infrastructure and depletion of all their economic resources. Prior to the earthquake, these communities already had limited resources, and the seismic event has exacerbated their situation, leaving them with no means to ensure food security or feed their children.
As part of our comprehensive 360 response approach, we are committed to ensuring access to housing, personal hygiene, and food security for the affected communities. Within this initiative, we focus particularly on food security by providing the distribution of food baskets containing essential, locally sourced nutritious products to these vulnerable populations, thereby ensuring families have access to sustenance during this critical period.
This project aims to address immediate food insecurity in earthquake-affected communities, ensuring access to nutritious food. By investing in local food production networks, it stimulates economic growth and enhances community resilience. Encouraging community initiatives further strengthens social cohesion. Overall, the project seeks to create sustainable solutions for long-term health, economic stability, and community resilience.
