Benin is one of the most dangerous places in the world for the nutritional health of children, the project moringa for the nutritional health of children on GlobalGiving is to provide a safe space for the children of the countryside and villages of Benin to have access To the food supplements of which moringa oleifera abounds, thousands of children die from vitamin deficiencies and the NGO YOUTH SERVICE AFRICA (YSA) is committed to changing this.
Thousands of children in villages and countryside die because of lack of vitamins in their diets. The infant-juvenile mortality rate in Benin (160 deaths per 1,000 births) means that 16 per cent of children born in Benin die before their fifth birthday. This rate is also in the average of the rates calculated for the sub-Saharan African countries surveyed. Malnutrition is an important factor in mortality among many young children. Even a child who suffers from moderate malnutrition can die.
This project will provide village populations with: - Information needed for children's nutrition, - Sensitize families and mothers on how to feed children and the nutrients they should seek for children, - Pupuction of moringa oleifera in each House, - Provision of populations of moringa Leaves, moringa powder and seeds of moringa, oil, soap and moringa biscuits - Installation of a free distribution center for all products derived from moringa.
The long-term impacts of the project are: - A population of 136,000 people will know how to feed children, - 1000 mothers and 530 sensitized families will feed children with foods containing nutrients, - Moringa oleifera units are installed in each house, - People will adopt the habit of eating moringa leaves, moringa powder and moringa seeds, - Attendance of the free distribution center for all products derived from moringa by the populations
