The project Sharing Space:Co-existence through Understanding proposed by the Public Interest Law Foundation (PILF) has, as indicated in the GlobalGiving platform, secured 90 USD so far from the targeted 175,200 USD of funding required for the project. PILF has sent thank you notes to all those who made donations. With the aim of publicizing the project to call for donations from individuals, PILF circulated the GlobalGiving link to the above project amongst close friends requesting them to circulate it further within their networks. The amount raised so far remains very limited and is not sufficient to commence the project or undertake its planned activities. PILF sees the need to circulate and publicize the project more so that more individuals, organisations, and members of the public who share PILF’s commitment to mitigate the Human Elephant Conflict can donate via GlobalGiving. PILF is looking at the possibilities of strengthening and expanding the publicity and outreach of the project through social media and other possible forums like awareness stalls at exhibitions.
The PILF expects that increased visibility will enable more people to learn about the project, understand its importance, and contribute, even by small donations to make the project a reality. The PILF received photographs from a group of youngsters who went on an elephant behaviour observation visit to the Kaudulla National Park, Sri Lanka to be used in publicity posts for the project (vide attachments). The PILF is very keen to get the project off the ground as understanding elephant behavior is a new approach to mitigate the Human Elephant Conflict which is a spiraling environmental problem in Sri Lanka affecting both elephants and communities. PILF extends its gratitude to GlobalGiving for hosting the project on its funding platform and to all those who have donated so far. Let's make Sharing Space:Co-existence through Understanding a reality.
