Update on IHI Liberian Health Care & Education Programs

Dear  Friends of Imani House,

  • Welcome to our second quarterly update of 2022! We hope you are well and in harmony with those around you. We are so happy to be in a position to bring you the latest news on our project.
  • I  return to serve as Program Director in Mid-January this year to find our national staff has done an admirable job administering all programs since my departure in early April 2021.
  • As we move closer to our mid-way point of this year. We on the ground in Liberia are still very much committed to offering the best possible health care and educational services to our target group here on the ground that our funding can provide.
  • As covid cases spiral downward here in the capital of Monrovia and across the country as a whole, we continue with full covid protocol at the clinic and at our literacy sites. We continue with our in-clinic health education class with covid as a central theme, as well as our many other Health Manual topics
  • Ministry of Health
  • Liberia currently averages about 2 new cases a  day as reported by the MOH. . From the start of the pandemic in 2020 to the present, Liberia, as a country has reported to the WHO 7,452, confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 294 deaths, to date, I would say due to this low incidence rate, and low death rate covid protocols have been more Tin many sectors around the country.
  • To further protect against the spread of the Covid virus, IMANI HOUSE in conjunction with the Ministry of Health and offered for the very first time covid vaccination to all our patients and staff.
  • Our clinic services continue our normal operations although the trend since the covid hit has led to a reduction in patient registration at the clinic,  Our busiest day at the clinic still remains to be Wednesday as it is "Big Belly Day". Many pre-natal and post-natal patience come for their exams and tests. We have two screeners fully engaged on those days keeping expectant mothers healthy so their babies are born at a much-lowered risk. Keeping families healthy is what IMANI HOUSE is all about.
  • ,,,,,as normal As soon as our Adult Education programs could reopen we did immediately, and in spite of basic restrictions due to Covid, there was/are no shortage of students. From the start of the pandemic until now we have served..... with adult education services.
  • IHI participated in the Awards dinner held by BW Harris Alumni Association=  on 30th April   IHI was honored.ED received a Community  Service award on behalf of the staff and the work done in Liberi. The event was attended by ED and BOD members Faith and Gail
  • In addition, due to a partnership with the US-Africa Children's Fellowship, we have better been able to hold our Women's Health Manual Workshops and Adult Education programs. The US-Africa Children's Fellowship's Bridge Project was created to minimize the digital divide in African countries making it easier for the poor to gain access to important technology. The project revolves around the Bridge Pi a solar-powered device capable of storing and sharing immense amounts of data.
  • Imani House was fortunate enough through this partnership to acquire several Bridge Pi devices and accessories as well as an associated grant to allow us to purchase mobile devices for our students. The way the project works is data is stored on the Bridge Pi which has the ability to hold large quantities, does not use electricity (is solar), and allows up to 30 devices to connect to the device and access the data on it wirelessly. We have used this device to facilitate workshops and offer programing as it eliminates the need of carrying large amounts of materials to sites for programs and distribution.
  • Besides all that good news I am very happy to say our Scholarship Initiative is in its 4th year and works with .... students annually. These students are partnered with donors in America and other countries who sponsor the child's education financially one or more times allowing school fees to be paid, uniforms purchased, and to cover materials and supplies costs. Also as a part of our scholarship program, IHI feels it is not only necessary to feed the mind with education, but it is also important to nourish the body. So as part of our linking our students to sponsors, we provide each student and their families with a gift of food. The present came as a big surprise to the families and was most appreciated. Maybe you would like to make a one-time commitment to supporting students with a food donation only?

We look forward to continuing our partnership with you our supporters far into the future and lending our mutual resources to the health.and education of Liberia!
