Through this project, volunteers from different geographical locations will help set up science and electronics laboratory classrooms in a remote rural and disadvantaged community in the northern part of Romania. All volunteer activities will consist of live online video conference, hands-on experiments, and will be focused on explaining the basics of using the Internet of Things platform and electronic components to about 30 high school students and 4 local engaged volunteers.
93% of today's jobs require a minimum level of digital skills which are often inaccessible to young students from Romania, especially in the rural community Dagata, one of the poorest and most isolated in Romania. Beside the low quality of the roads, serious financial problems and the limited access to socio-psycho-educational and medical services, there is reduced to non-existent access to information and technology, due to the lack of facilities in the local school.
The project involves setting up online science and electronics laboratory classrooms in a school in Dagata commune using good technological equipment. Engineers and IT professionals from worldwide companies will volunteer and held live online training courses for digital an technical skills development for students. They will learn about basics of science and electronics and how to use the Internet of Things platform.
30 children from Dagata commune will train and develop their knowledge and digital, technical, creative, problem solving skills in computer science and engineering. It will help them find employment and adapt to future jobs. Also, they will use their technical knowledge and skills to help other children in the community which will contribute to reducing the unemployment rate and breaking the vicious circle of poverty, caused by the lack of education.
