Mobile Library for slum children in Trichy, India

Dear Wellwishers,

It's a great pleasure to see more books getting added to our kitty. 

We take pride in thanking our rotarian friends Mrs. Nisha and Mrs. Valli for contributing the wide array of books from stories to knowledge. 95 books were added to the library now. The children in the slums of Kajapettai and Kodappu have become the members of the library and have started borrowing the books. We also have a small collection of books that prepare the youth for competitive exams. It is good to see that the youth in the locality are making use of the opportunity. We have members from the age of 8 years.

On 15th May we had a meeting in Kajapettai with the parents of our children. They were informed about the mobile library and its uses and were motivated to join the library. They are interested in becoming members and have also assured that they will motivate the youth in their families to make use of the library. Due to fund constraint the mobile library is now operating in the two slums and we have plans to expand it to 3 more slums if we get the minimum funding for part of salary of staff and fuel for vehicle.

Dear donors, kindly support this project which will expand the horizons of our children who are deprived of the wonderful opportunities of the world. It will help children like Shanthini (name changed) to learn more, prepare themselves for the competitive exams and thus pave a way to get a job. Shanthini wants to become a village administrative officer. Of course the goal is a difficult one to reach but your support, our tireless efforts and the children's overwhelming enthusiasm will achieve a lot.
