Many vulnerable mothers and children in hard-to-reach communities in Uganda face poor access to basic health care. Long distances, understaffed facilities, and shortages of essential services leave many illnesses untreated. Your donation will help us train community health workers, improve referrals and follow-up, and conduct child-screening and deworming outreach. Together, we can detect illness early, reduce preventable disease, and bring better health closer to families who need it most.
Pregnant women, nursing mothers, and children under 12 in hard-to-reach communities in Kole District, Northern Uganda, often live far from health facilities and cannot afford transport. Clinics also face staff shortages and medicine stock-outs, leaving illnesses like worms, fever, respiratory infections, and skin diseases untreated. This project will improve access to healthcare, screening, deworming, and community follow-up for 1,200 vulnerable people, helping protect mothers and their children
We will respond through a community health approach that brings care closer to families, and our intervention will focus on three key actions: Training VHTs, CHWs, and para-social workers to provide health education, household follow-up, and referrals. Conducting screening outreaches for children to identify illness early and link them to treatment. Carrying out deworming activities to reduce the burden of preventable infections and support better growth and school attendance.
Over time, this project will help build a stronger community health system in Kole District by improving early detection, referrals, and follow-up for mothers and children. Trained community health workers will continue to share health information, identify illnesses earlier, and link families to care. This will reduce preventable sickness, improve child growth and school attendance, and increase timely maternal health care. As families gain knowledge and trust in community services.
