This project will establish Radiant Earth Foundation's Radiant MLHub Impact Award! This award will become an annual prize recognizing an individual or organization for their outstanding contribution to real-world applications that address environmental issues using open geospatial training data and machine learning models for Earth observation. The inaugural prize will be awarded for work in the realm of Sustainable Agriculture.
Addressing climate change is the challenge of our lifetime. Today, technologies like Artificial Intelligence combined with Earth observation can provide promising solutions for some of the world's greatest climate-related challenges, more quickly and accurately identifying and addressing emerging environmental challenges at local, regional, and global scales. However, for many practitioners working to address these problems finding and accessing the necessary data and tools remains a challenge.
Radiant Earth established Radiant MLHub to encourage widespread collaboration and allow anyone to access, store, register, and share training datasets for high-quality Earth observations. Today, over 3000 practitioners have used MLHub to support their work building applications that monitor agriculture, conservation, climate change, and more. The Award will recognize and showcase innovative uses and solutions and will inspire others to collaborate openly across the climate solutions community.
To tackle the urgent challenges of climate change, we need to amplify our efforts and impact. Our hope is that the Radiant MLHub Impact Award will further raise awareness about the use of geospatial data to solve the climate crisis, promote local solutions to local problems, facilitate greater collaboration across organizations and individual practitioners, while providing support and recognition to outstanding problem-solvers from our community of practice.
