MH Nutrition Project - Q1 2026

Childhood anemia and chronic malnutrition remain the silent enemies of rural Andean children, and this quarter we fought back across 35 communities. We distributed 45,400 units of iron-fortified bread, 31,197 eggs, and 6 tons of fish — benefiting more than 3,000 highland families thanks to the support of the fisheries Diamante and Exalmar — directly reaching 765 beneficiaries through an integrated approach. We carried out 181 community activities, including 75 home visits where our licensed nutritionists monitor each family's eating habits and hygiene, 6 workshops with our network of community mother-leaders, and the renewal of laying hens, school gardens, and worm-composting areas. Next quarter, we will launch baking workshops for high school students in Huaypan, expanding the program into productive skills training and move forward with partner universities to scientifically validate the anemia reduction we are achieving. For every dollar invested in nutrition, families save 2.8 dollars they would otherwise spend on nutritious food, but the real return cannot be measured in money: it is measured in children who arrive at school with energy to learn, in mothers who no longer worry about the next meal, and in communities reclaiming their food sovereignty. Thanks to you, that transformation is happening today.

MH Nutrition Project – Report Q1-2 2025
Dear donor,
We would like to express our most profound and sincere gratitude for all your contributions. Due to the help awarded by each one of you, the Mision Huascaran Nutrition Program continues to thrive and expand.
Below we share the MH Nutrition Program Progress Report for the period.
Nutrition improvements of the reported period:
- In Q1-2 2025, our anti-anemia bakery produced 144,.480 iron-enriched bread rolls to feed 743 children and pregnant women from Huashcao, Canchapampa, Congar, Punyan, Amashca, Pariaqaqa, Pariahuanca and Huaypan villages.
- Fish distribution continued monthly, handing out 4 tons of frozen fish on each occasion, benefiting over 2.300 rural households,
- The egg laying hen project at the Pariaqaqa school produced 6.470 free-range eggs. In the reported period, 312 school going children will have an additional daily boiled egg for lunch. Each egg provides invaluable nutrients for the children’s physical development. As such, the project is improving the protein intake of the children, providing 6 grams of additional protein and all essential amino acids.
- Almost 5.000 fortified milk products were distributed to vulnerable segments of the population, in between the bread, fish, milk products and vegetables garden we made significant headway in the improvement of the food security in the intervention zone.
- Our nutritionists led 118 community educational activities, benefitting +1.100 beneficiaries from 35 rural communities in topics such as nutrition, health and hygiene.
- The agro-technicians from Misión Huascarán supervised almost 91 vegetable gardens. Vegetable gardens are an important tool in the quest to improve food security for the rural families, making them more resilient and sustainable in the long term.
To continue expanding our reach, we require all the help you can give – utilizing the GlobalGiving platform. The world continuously makes us face great challenges for our societies; and the children are the light and hope at the end of the tunnel for a bright future.
We thank you for all the help you’ve given and will continue to give in the future.
