Crop diversification with small-holder farmers
Dear Friend,
Warm greetings and thank you very much for your generous support to our project providing assistance to internally displaced families. A series of unfortunate events happening in the countryside made people to abandon their homes and seek places where they can live peacefully or have something to eat. This reporting period, we promoted the practice of crop diversification among farmers who have returned to their homes and starting to grow crops over again. The idea is for them to fully utilize their small plot of land in order to grow a variety of crops so that their income streams are spread over several months as opposed to only growing one crop and in the event of failure going hungry for long stetches. We are able to conduct training to 75 farmers using this technique and provide them with seeds and planting materials. We will continue to monitor the farmers in order for us to document this best practice and expand our assistance to other beneficiaries and areas.
Again, thank you very much for your generosity.
Very sincerely yours,
Cora

provision of small livelihoods
Dear Friend,
Warm greetings and thank you very much for your generous support to our project assisting those who have left their homes due to war and calamities. The villages that we are working are beset with man-made and natural calamities. For example, in areas where there are Muslims, some sectors are advocating war. On the other hand, natural calamities such as typhoons are happening more frequently causing people to be displaced from their homes. This reporting period, we provided small livelihoods to 235 families. The livelihoods are the raising of small animals such as chickens, ducks, pigs and goats. These animals are easy to grow in the backyard and they provide food and income for the family.
Hoping for your continuing support to this initiative.
Very sincerely yours,
Cora

Training on livelihood

conduct of livelihood training
Dear Friend,
Warm greetings and thank you very much for your generous support to our project providing support to refugees affected by internal war in Mindanao. Additional refugees are being added every now and then and they are affected by natural disasters such as the recent typhoon and massive flooding in some parts of the country due to typhoons and monsoon rains. I think that this is the new normal and that we need to be proactive in assisting those who are displaced and unable to return to their homes for a long time. This reporting period, we launched a series of training programs for displaced families and the training focused on improving nutrition and income in the household. The training is geared towards providing the refugees with life-skills. In the past, we provide directly to them money but we see little effect in terms of sustaining the income and livelihood of the refugees, hence this approach. This reporting period we were able to conduct 4 trainings with a total of 340 refugees. After the training we were able to release micro-finance support for 132 approved livelihood projects. We will do close monitoring of these projects in the coming days.
Hoping for your continuing support.
Very sincerely yours,
Cora
