Project Report – Mid day Meals

Most of the special children attending Balajothi come from families below poverty line, and many of them are illiterate.  Their guardians /parents either work as house maids, laborers or are jobless.  Living in cities exact a heavy toll on their meager savings and under the circumstances they find it very difficult to provide a nourishing meal to their off spring, more so when it happens to be a special child.

Balajothi has stepped in to this niche with a mid-day meal scheme to addresses this problem.  Every child is provided with a nourishing mid day meal which consists of a typical Indian meal such as rice, chappathis, sambar, rasam, a vegetable side dish and a fruit.  The meals are not standardized but vary on a daily basis thus tempting the children to look forward for different flavors of food which also increases their appetite.  This goes for a healthy and nutritious meal which is well liked by the children. Children at Balajothi are healthy and happy and love to attend the school daily.  The smile on their faces tells the real story.

Apart from providing healthy food children are taught to eat by themselves using their fingers or spoons. Meal time is also a time of learning for these special children and they gradually learn habits which most probably they never get a chance to learn in their home.

Balajothi thanks all donors for being instrumental in making these changes in the lives of our special children   We along with our children remember all our donors in our prayers before the meal.

Given below is the break up of the amount spent on mid-day meals served for the three months to the special children of Balajothi :

April 2016 – Rs.9,240.00 (USD – 138.43)

May 2016 – Rs.8,440.00 (USD – 126.44)

June 2016 – Rs. 8,750.00 (USD – 131.09)
