BALAJOTHI CENTRE FOR THE DISABLED

PROJECT REPORT

PROJECT TITLE : MID DAY MEALS TO DISABLED CHILDREN (#16999)

REPORT DUE DATE : FEBRUARY 2, 2017

One of the challenges faced by Balajothi Centre for the Disabled is managing disabled children with malnutrition.  We need first to define malnutrition and its effects on the child’s overall growth.

What is malnutrition ?

Malnutrition can be defined as the insufficient or imbalanced consumption of nutrients. Lack of sufficient nutrients could hamper with proper growth, leaving them under the attack of various health conditions, such as rickets, stunted growth, or even organ failure. If you glance through the reports of World Health Organizations, you will be shocked to find that this is the number one threat the world is currently combating with. More than hundreds of millions of people are currently trapped within the clutches of this deadly health condition. Surveys revealed that almost 47 percent children in India are undernourished, approximately 46 percent of the children are extremely small and underweight according to their age, and almost 17 percent succumb to this issue.

Malnutrition could arise from many factors. There are various NGOs and other government bodies that are working with diligence to curb and eradicate malnutrition in children of India yet Indian children comprise a large part of the malnourished children present in the world. There has to be a collective effort from the society to eradicate malnutrition.

Balajothi Centre for the disabled is one such ngo which works ceaselessly to eradicate malnutrition by providing balanced and nutritious meals on a daily basis to all the disabled children attending the school.  These children, who have been regularly attending Balajothi since its inception, have not had a single complaint in this respect.  They are not only provided healthy food but also given training in proper eating etiquette and posture control.  Children who are profoundly disabled are fed by caregivers who ensure that they receive the proper type and quantity of food as required.

GlobalGiving has till date raised $ 5578 against this project. Balajothi thanks GlobalGiving and all its donors for being instrumental in providing nutritious and balanced food to our special children every day. It is through your generous contribution that these special children receive  good food keeping them healthy and happy. Thank you GlobalGiving for making this possible…

Given below is the break-up of the amounts spent on mid-day meals served to our special children :

October 2016 – Rs. 10,740/-

November 2016 – Rs. 10,080/-

December 2016 – Rs. 9,800/-
