Permaculture-trained farmers reunion
Pro-Microfinance's Community Shamba Project created a pool of permaculture-trained farmers in Butembo in 2014. Three years on, our chief operations officer met with some of the graduates to see how they are doing. And to our delight, they have taken off!
One participant shared how they had taught other mothers in her neighborhood how to produce vegetables, while another participant had noted how they had taught farmers around the town of Beni about how to biologically produce tomatoes. A third, meanwhile, has since supervised farmers on liquid fertilizers, and has seen great results. As a group, some of the participants have bought two plots of land in the area, where they will practice intercropping and agroforestry skills taught during the training.
With such a little training going such a long way, Pro-Microfinance and the training graduates are eager for the next steps. Participants proposed a committee to revitalize skills sharing, and several credit-related products that Pro-Microfinance could create that would help small scale farmers, including themselves and others. Will you help us develop and fund these? We welcome your feedback and support, small and large!
Thank You!
