A Role We Play

Dear Supporters,

It’s getting to be the holiday season, which means families all over the world are thinking about what they can do with their loved ones to celebrate the end of 2017. For many, this means eating and drinking special foods, and getting new clothes.

But what if your savings were shrinking? In a country like the DRC, high inflation- an estimated 44% by the end of 2017, according to CNBC- can mean that your accounts in Congolese francs are worth less and less USD. For many, this means harder work for less purchasing power.

That’s why Pro-Microfinance’s office in Butembo has started turning all of its Congolese francs into dollars. We know how hard our members work to contribute to their savings accounts, and we know that it can be devastating to lose some of the value of these savings overnight. So Pro-microfinance works with members to ensure that, for as many as possible, their money is kept in USD and not francs, even buying francs outright. This gives our members ever increasing purchasing power, and ensures a future for their loves ones, starting this holiday season.

You can help us to counter the high inflation in the DRC by contributing directly to Pro-Microfinance. Your gift will directly impact the household finances of small business owners, including farmers, food vendors, taxi drivers, and tailors, and allow us to keep taking actions that are proactive, responsible, and urgent, even when they’re not profitable for us. Help us help others, before 2017 closes!
