From February to July 2026, Gender Equality Club Nigeria (GECN) implemented a comprehensive digital literacy awareness campaign across 12 secondary schools in Gboko. Led by Project Director Mimidoo Tijah, the initiative successfully engaged over 100 female student leaders, equipping them with the tools necessary to navigate a knowledge-based technology economy.
The Intersection of Digital Skills and Climate Change The campaign highlighted that digital skills are no longer optional but are a vital "way forward" in every aspect of a schoolgirl's life, from academic excellence to professional readiness. A primary focus was the synergy between digital literacy and climate actions. By mastering technology, girls can better monitor environmental data, lead digital advocacy campaigns, and implement sustainable solutions in their communities.
Furthermore, the training introduced the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in combating climate change. Participants explored how AI can be used for predictive modeling of weather patterns crucial for a region where irregular rainfall often disrupts farming and how it can optimize resource management to build community resilience.
Empowering 21st-Century Leaders This project builds on GECN’s long-standing mission to bridge the digital divide and address the "double blow" of gender inequality and climate instability in Benue State. By fostering proficiency in digital tools and AI, GECN is raising a generation of proactive girls capable of influencing policy and driving social transformation.
Call for Action
While the initial implementation phase has shown significant impact, continued support is essential to reach more underserved communities.
We call on our partners and the global community to support our mission through the GlobalGiving platform, ensuring every girl in Gboko has the digital skills to lead a sustainable future.
