Digital Literacy Skills for Schoolgirls in Gboko

By MS. AKPEN JULIET SHIMENENGE, Ms. Angela Abur | Information & Communication Officer, Volunteer

Right now, we haven't gotten any donations on GlobalGiving. But we're still super determined to help girls in rural areas get access to technology and education. Our awesome team of teachers and community partners are working hard to make sure we reach our goal.

The micro project on digital literacy skills for schoolgirls in Gboko was successfully implemented from January 2024 to March 5, 2024. The project reached and impacted over 20 girls in secondary schools across Gboko Local Government Area.

The project focused on providing digital literacy workshops, coding training skills, and graphic design skills to the beneficiary schoolgirls.

Success Stories

One beneficiary, a 15-year-old girl named  Sewuese, shared that she had never touched a computer before the project. After participating in the workshops, she is now able to create basic documents, browse the internet, and send emails.

Another beneficiary, a 16-year-old girl named Blessing, said that she was particularly interested in the coding training. She is now able to write simple codes and create basic websites.

Future Potential

The project has sparked a passion for technology among the beneficiary schoolgirls. Many of them expressed their desire to pursue careers in STEM fields. The project has given them the confidence and skills to succeed in these fields.

We extend our gratitude to our donors for making this project possible. Their support has provided these girls with a life-changing opportunity to learn vital digital literacy skills.

We appeal to philanthropists and organizations to continue supporting programs that provide digital literacy skills to rural girls. These skills can empower them to break the cycle of poverty and achieve their full potential.
