MOT is embracing new technology with the launch of new digital programs called "MOT at Home." While social distancing affects our ability to present live events, we have turned our attention to curating weekly opera, dance, and educational resources for adults and students alike, with a growing cache of lectures, blogs, podcasts, lesson plans, and links to performances from around the country.
The Michigan Opera Theatre is committed to responding and adapting our opera and dance services for the community until we can safely welcome audiences back inside the Detroit Opera House. As our company explores the role opera can play in tempering public anxiety, we will pursue creative pathways toward local audience re-engagement across a variety of platforms and community settings in collaboration with our artists this summer and fall.
Objectives include: 1) Developing creative artistic content and socially-responsible performance opportunities to serve audiences both in-person, and online, via the newly launched "MOT at Home" digital initiative; 2) Maintaining the presence and relevancy of opera within the metro Detroit communities during this undetermined period of social distancing; and 3) Ensuring continued compensation for critical members of our artistic corps.
Michigan Opera Theatre's mission is to be the premier, multi-disciplinary producer and presenter for opera and dance in the Great Lakes Region, and to serve as one of the pillars of arts and culture in the city of Detroit.
