Some great news - we have finally launched our new project in Rautahat, Province 2, Nepal.
20 children as young as 6 are out of brick factories where they worked very hard until a few days ago, and are now at school! On the first day of our classes, the completely unprompted children put their hands together and all shouted 'we promise never to work at the factories again and we promise to attend school everyday'.
The children will now receive classes for around 3 months to get used to going to school and to the routine. After that time, they will be admitted to the local school that is also donating the classroom space to us. We will then continue to provide them with 2 hours a day of tution classes to enable them to attend the school and pass all the exams successfully. We will run this as a pilot for one year so we might change their school hours or amount of extra tuition, depending on their needs.
All the families are also being supported with rice to replace any income that the children were bringing from their work at the factories.
We still have over 70 children on our list that work at the same factories that need our help so we are hoping to do that in the next few months. Once this is done, we will be working in a diplomatic way with the factories to stop child labour over there all together. If that fails, we will take legal action.
Thank you so much for all your support so far!
