Adventurous journey

By Desislava Ivanova | Projects and communications specialist

Dear friends,

We are happy to give you feedback from one of our most recent activities. Our youth and volunteers participated in the first camp – adventurous journey taking place in Bulgaria under the “Award for all” project – another supportive mentoring initiative in which our Step for Bulgaria Foundation is involved. Two of our girls went on this trip in order to discover something new and useful and to conquer their own personal heights.

The journey itself was carried out from the 20th untill the 26th of August, 2016 at the National training centre of the Bulgarian red cross, situated in the village of Lozen. The adventurous journey fostering the adventurous and discovering spirit of the participants represents one of the four main directions of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award – Bulgaria – one of the leading youth programmes for personal development and achievements. The skills and qualities that the adventurous journey aims to develop in the participants are coping in unfamiliar environment, teamwork, planning and setting of goals.

Some of the participants even went on another hiking experience, which took place before the adventurous journey and oh, yes, it was challenging! Part of them returned soaking wet, others got lost, but managed to find their way back and in the end everything went well. On the final day of the project, the young people presented their experience and everything new that they have learned during that time - survival tips, wild life exploration skills, interpersonal experience and more. The mood was great and it was a very positive and enriching experience for both the young people and the volunteers!

In this regard, we would like to share with you that recently new mentor – young person couples were formed and that now we're in the process of gathering new young people for our projects.
