Girl Child Art Foundation created the AFA Mentorship Program (AFAMP) in response to the need to empower and support young African female artists to succeed in the creative industry by offering them additional support beyond GCAF's regular art workshops, exhibitions, and other art-based educational programs. The goal of the AFAM program is to support emerging female visual artists who pursue additional career development or technical direction to develop their practice as practicing artists.
Female artists in Africa face several challenges in the creative industry, especially in access to studios, professional artist support, and training. In addition, so many female artists in Africa have limited access to studio spaces to create their art, which makes it difficult to experiment with new techniques and materials essential for artistic growth and development. Professional artist support and training are also limited to female artists in Africa.
By creating more opportunities for female artists to develop their skills and showcase their talent with adequate resources and support, female artists in Africa can thrive and contribute to the diversity of cultural expression in the art industry. The Mentorship program will focus on continuing education without formally enrolling the artists in a school. The program provides female artists mentorship, training, and networking opportunities to help to help them succeed in the industry.
In conclusion, addressing female artists' challenges in Africa concerning cultural practice through art, access to studios, professional artist support, and training is crucial to their success in the creative industry. Creating more opportunities for female artists to develop their skills and showcase their talent is essential. By providing adequate resources and support, female artists in Africa can thrive and contribute to the diversity of cultural expression in the art industry.
