Summary

About 300,000 of mentally disabled adults in Moscow suffer of social isolation, unemployment, neglect, poverty. They cannot access opportunities like education, employment, social interaction and are excluded from the society. This project will affect up to 50 people with severe mental illness by means of providing them with social rehabilitation and long-life support that will improve their social functioning and give them an opportunity to live their lives in an independent and productive way.

Challenge

About 300,000 of mentally disabled adults in Moscow suffer of social isolation, unemployment, neglect, poverty. They cannot access opportunities like education, employment, social interaction and are excluded from the society. This project will affect up to 50 people with severe mental illness by means of providing them with social rehabilitation and long-life support that will improve their social functioning and give them an opportunity to live their lives in an independent and productive way.

Solution

Russian House provides comprehensive psychosocial rehabilitation program to adults suffering severe mental illnesses (schizophrenia, manic depression, severe depressions). It offers them trainings of skills of everyday living and basic labour skills; supported education and employment; case management, social and leisure program; self-enrichment activities (art and craft program); long-life support and assistance in challenging situations and solving their various problems.

Long-Term Impact

Up to 50 mentally disabled will get an access to education and employment, regain self-confedence, develop skills of independent living, appropriate social interactions and positive engagement in the society. The project will sthrenghten their ability to live independent sustainable lives. Finally, access to effective and modern rehabilitation services will have a positive long-term impact on their mental health and prevent them from the "revolving door" effect - quick readmission to hospital.
