In the Democratic Republic of Congo, years of conflict, displacement, poverty, and repeated health crises have left deep emotional and psychological wounds, particularly among women, young people, survivors of violence, and other conflict-affected communities. Yet access to quality, culturally appropriate mental health and psychosocial support remains extremely limited. Our project, Mental Health: Key to Community Recovery, DRC, was created to help change this reality by bringing community-based mental health support closer to people who need it most, while strengthening local capacity to respond to psychosocial needs.
At this stage, the project is in its preparation and resource-mobilization phase. We are identifying qualified trainers and potential learners who will participate in the planned capacity-building activities, while preparing the community-based approach that will guide implementation. The project is scheduled to begin in November 2025, with a total fundraising target of $35,000. So far, $66 has been raised, an important first step toward making this initiative possible. Through our collaboration with GlobalGiving, we are confident that we can reach a wider community of international supporters and move closer to our fundraising goal.
Every contribution can help bring us closer to a future where people affected by crisis are not left alone with their pain. The funds raised will support training, community awareness, stigma reduction, psychosocial support activities, and the development of local capacity to provide culturally appropriate care. In the long term, we hope to see stronger community resilience, improved mental well-being, greater social cohesion, and more sustainable recovery among vulnerable communities across the DRC.
We sincerely thank the $66 in early supporters and every donor who has believed in this project. We are especially grateful to GlobalGiving for providing a platform that connects locally driven initiatives with people around the world who care about creating meaningful change. We now invite individuals, organizations, and partners everywhere to stand with communities in the DRC. Your support can help turn this project from a plan into a source of hope, healing, and resilience. Together, we can help make mental health a part of community recovery and ensure that vulnerable people have a path toward healing and a more hopeful future.
