The project strengthens community resilience in the Democratic Republic of Congo by expanding access to culturally appropriate mental health and psychosocial support. It prioritizes conflict-affected populations, women, youth, and survivors of violence, integrating mental health into community recovery to promote healing, social cohesion, and sustainable recovery in fragile, underserved communities across the DRC.
In the Democratic Republic of Congo, years of armed conflict, displacement, poverty, and recurrent health crises have severely impacted mental health. Access to quality, culturally appropriate mental health and psychosocial support remains extremely limited, stigma is widespread, and community-based services lack trained personnel, leaving vulnerable populations without adequate care or pathways to recovery.
The project addresses these challenges by expanding community-based mental health and psychosocial support services, training local providers, and integrating mental health into recovery initiatives. Through awareness campaigns, stigma reduction, and culturally appropriate care, it improves access to support, strengthens local capacity, and promotes long-term healing and resilience in affected communities.
The project's long-term impact includes stronger community resilience, improved mental well-being, and enhanced social cohesion in the DRC. By building local capacity, reducing stigma, and integrating mental health into recovery efforts, it ensures sustainable access to psychosocial support, empowering vulnerable populations to heal, thrive, and contribute to lasting community development.
