Menstrual Hygiene Improvement Project will works with 5000 Indian Adolescent Girls studying in Government Schools for improving their knowledge on Menstrual Health, nutritious food & life skills for protect themselves from Reproductive Track Infections, establishing kiosks at working schools for continuous availability of IEC, habituating usage of napkin through free provision of sanitary napkins and it's safe disposal, the project will leads safe motherhood for the girls for their better future
In Srikakulam, communities consider that menstrual blood is dirty & unhygienic, majority of the women & girls using un-sterilised dirty cloth while menstruation time and just wash the cloth with water, kept in roof at home for reuse. Due to lack of facilities, girls absent from schools during periods, umpteen taboos, myths & traditions promoting poor menstrual practices, these are caused for fungal infections, Reproductive and Urinary Tract Infections which leads cervical cancer and infertility
The intervention will address the issue through enhancing awareness among Adolescent Girls studying Government Schools and will create permanent information kiosks at schools, habituating usage of sanitary napkins, active girls trained as Resource Persons and conduct sessions for peers, the school is working as a resource production center on menstrual health. Girls follow the best practices from early age for protecting their reproductive health through making their periods more hygienic
The intervention will educate 5000 girls studying 8th to 10th standards. Active girls will train as resource persons on Menstrual Hygiene Management to reduce myths & taboos and improve knowledge on safe menstruation. They share their knowledge with friends and family members. The intervention will focus on understanding about the adverse impact of local traditions, customs and will try to change the mind set of elder women in families and ensure males support to the women during menstruation
