MRA continues to make progress advancing research to understand the risk factors of melanoma among veteran populations, especially the rare melanoma subtypes acral, mucosal, and uveal melanoma. Over the last six months, MRA in partnership with scientists at the VA and Massachusetts General Hospital have assembled the largest retrospective cohort of veterans with melanoma. Our current VA cohort includes 2,100 veterans with cutaneous (skin) melanoma, and approximately 200 with acral melanoma, 200 mucosal melanoma, and 400 uveal melanoma. Over the next few months the team will analyze for clinical, epidemiological, and environmental risk factors that might increase the risk for each of these types of melanoma.
