Terminally ill cancer patients are those who are left with no further treatment options. Palliative care, which aims to minimize pain and suffering, is the only way to provide comfort to such patients during their last days. A large number of terminally ill cancer patients in India cannot afford such care and are left to suffer till the end, without being cared for. There is an acute need for free palliative care for cancer patients in India.
Karunshraya provides free palliative care to terminally ill cancer patients. Most patients who come to Karunashraya are from poor economic background who cannot afford care. The hospice provides beds, pain alleviating medicines, dressing for wounds, nursing, doctors' visits, food, etc., to minimize pain and suffering and ensure peace and dignity in death. Karunashraya operates on donations, and contributions to this project will fund expenses towards medicines for 3 months.
