The six sea containers sent to storm-damaged Santiago, packed with urgently needed specific materials, are having an enormous benefit on healthcare in this region of Cuba. The Cuban health system relies on a diverse network of healthcare institutions, and 369 of them, ranging from large hospitals to small community clinics, were damaged by the hurricane. As they rebuild, Global Links - with your help and with the aid and cooperation of our partners - is providing much-needed medical materials.
In addition, supplies for pediatric neurosurgery that were hand-carried earlier this year have already been used to save the lives of children. Because of our relationships with the Cuban health system, and our unique model of recovering usable surplus materials from US hospitals, we were able to put very sophisticated materials in the right hands. It bears repeating: these relationships save lives.
As we continue to partner with MEDICC (Medical Education Cooperation with Cuba) and PAHO (Pan American Health Organization), to direct medical supplies and equipment to Santiago, we are proud to be able to help in this way, and grateful for your life-saving support. We could not do this without you.
