We are prepping two containers of supplies and furnishings to leave Pennsylvania this week (week of May 6, 2013) for Santiago. The first container will benefit Gustavo Machin Psychiatric Hospital in Santiago with 38 hospital beds, mattress and other needed medical supplies. The hospital is still recovering after being evacuated after Sandy. The second container has 50 more hospital beds and assorted medical supplies that will be distributed to other hospitals and healthcare centers near Santiago.
We have continued to work with PAHO (Pan American Health Organization) and MEDICC (Medical Education Cooperation with Cuba) to determine that we are sending the most necessary and useful items to help with their hurricane recovery. It is imperative in disaster relief to send items that are truly essential during the recovery period so as to not overwhelm the recovering country.
We would not have been able to continue our support of Santiago without your help! Thank you all for your continued help of our projects in Santiago!
