Project Report | Aug 1, 2023
continued support for vulnerable communities

By Suha Al Hafi | Project Coordinator

In a world where refugee crises are becoming increasingly common, Insan is stepping up to provide essential support to those in need. One such success story when Insan provides medications, training and educational programs to refugees to help them manage their health conditions and elevate their knowledge levels.

Through a combination of fundraising efforts and partnerships with humanitarian organizations, Insan has been able to procure a steady supply of medications for refugees suffering from chronic illnesses, such as diabetes, hypertension, and arthritis. In addition to providing free of charge medication.

We were able to assist 902 beneficiaries in Tyre, Bekaa, Sed El Bouchrieh, Sin El Fil, Ghazir, and Ein El Remeneh. 722 were given chronic and acute medications, while 73 were referred to other primary health care providers for treatment. Medications and first aid kits were also donated to the Greek Orthodox Dispensary, Dispensaire Intercommunautaire, LAECD (Lebanese Association for Early Childhood Development), and RHUH (Rafik Hariri University Hospital).

Since its inception, Insan has helped thousands of refugees receive vital medical treatment and support. Through its outreach and advocacy efforts, it has also raised awareness of the critical healthcare needs facing displaced populations and highlighted the importance of community-based interventions in providing sustainable solutions.

One of our continuous success stories with the medical mobile unit was during the cholera outbreak. While the outbreak was initially confined to northern districts, it rapidly spread, with laboratory-confirmed cases from all eight governorates and 18 out of 26 districts including Bekaa. Luckily, our beneficiaries in Bekaa camps did not encounter cholera but we continuously raised awareness sessions about cholera infection, symptoms, risk factors, prevention & control, water & sanitation, and treatment. We also distributed ORS (oral rehydration salts) and taught them how to reconstitute and use them when needed. With the Mobile Clinic and through the encouragement of our community leaders, the beneficiaries feel confident and happy about the services we are providing. Our health team continues to provide health services and follow-up on patients in addition to raising awareness about health issues and prevention through education.

In the end, the success of Insan speaks for itself and illustrates how it’s efforts can address complex challenges for refugees and other vulnerable populations. By working together, organizations and individuals can make a difference in the lives of those who need it most and create a more compassionate and just world.
